NEET-UG 2016 - Eligibility & Reservation

NEET-UG replaced AIPMT exam from 2016 onwards for admissions in India's private and government medical colleges. Students aiming for MBBS and BDS appear in this exam to pursue higher studies.

NEET Eligibility Criteria

  1. Candidates who are Indian Nationals and Overseas Citizens of India(OCI) are eligible for appearing in NEET UG exam

  2. Candidates must have completed 17 years of age at the time of their admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December of the year of their admission to the 1st year of M.B.B.S./B.D.S. degree

  3. The upper age limit is 25 years as on 31st December of the year of Entrance examination for candidates seeking admission under 15% AI Quota

  4. For candidates belonging to SC / ST / OBC Category, the upper age limit is extended by a period of 5 years provided that the following conditions are satisfied:

For SC/ST/OBC Category: Candidates must be born on or between January 1,1987 to January 1,2000

For other Category: Candidates must be born on or between January 1,1992 to January 1,2000

  1. Candidates of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J& K are not eligible for 15% All India Quota seats. Candidates of these states must submit an online self - declaration to claim eligibility.

  2. Verification of Self - Declaration of the candidate will be done at the time of counselling and candidature of candidates will be cancelled if the declaration is found to be false.

Eligibility Criteria for Admission to State Medical Colleges /Universities / Institutions / AFMC

  • Admission under State Quota seats is as per the regulations and reservation policy enforced in the State from time to time
  • Candidates seeking admission to seats under the control of Institutions, States and AFMC must satisfy their regulations and norms

Qualifications & Qualifying Examination Codes 

Code 01: Candidates who have appeared for Higher Secondary Examination in 2016 and awaiting results can apply for NEET and take the test but he will not be eligible for admission to UG courses if he does not pass the examination with required percentage of marks.


Code 02: Candidates who passed 12th Standard under ICSE Board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English are eligible.


Code 03: Candidates who have passed Intermediate Examination in Science from a Recognised Indian University with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as mandatory subjects


Code 04: Candidates who have passed Pre- Medical Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English after passing Higher Secondary Examination are eligible. The Pre- Medical examination must comprise of practical tests in these subjects & English as a mandatory subject


Code 05: Candidates in the 1st year of a three year degree course from a Recognised University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible.


Code 06: Candidates who have passed B.Sc. Examination from a Recognised University with at least 2 of the subjects from Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible

Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria listed above and who have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with an aggregate of minimum 50% marks are eligible to appear for NEET UG exam.

  • Admission under 85% state Quota seats shall be subject to norms and regulations prevailing in the State/ Union Territory from time to time.
