Preparation Strategy

He started his preparation 150 days before the GATE exam. He planned his preparation in 3 major phases. His detailed study plan is as follows:

Phase1 (15days, 5hours/Day) –

Going Through GATE Syllabus, Building Reparation Plan & Good Books

At first, he went through the blogs written by previous GATE toppers. Then, he tried to search the syllabus & pattern of the exam.

After this, he searched for good books & finally planned the order in which he should study the topics & planned the time required to cover each topic.

Phase 2 (105 days, 12 hours/day) –

Studying from Books & Solving Previous Year’s papers

He listed the chapters covered in GATE Syllabus & allotted time to them  He assigned more time to important topics & dedicated less time to less weight age topics.

He focused on studying all the relevant topics from all the books he had chosen. His strategy was to study a particular topic & then attempt past 10 years questions paper from that topic only.

Most important he didn’t leave any topic untouched from the prescribed syllabus.

Order of Exam Attempt

He said he started with the easiest section as this helped him boast his confidence. He attempted the paper in following order:

  1. Numerical ability

  2. 1 mark CS questions

  3. Verbal Ability

  4. 2 marks CS questions

He attempted the verbal ability section in the end as he was not very confident about it. He says that questions which are lengthy & time consuming should be attempted later on.
