About JEE Main 2016

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an all India engineering entrance examination which is conducted every year for admission to various engineering courses all over the nation. Internationally, JEE is regarded as one of the toughest engineering entrance test. JEE Main is conducted by CBSE. JEE is the first stage examination for entry in the prestigious IITs and other top engineering colleges. This year JEE Main will be held on April 3, 2016 (Offline) and on April 9 and 10, 2016 (Online).

 

In the past year, more than 13 lakh students appeared for the exam but in the current year, the number of registrations has been reduced to 12.07 lakh. 31 NITs, 18 IITs and 18 GFTIs are the participating institutes of JEE Main. Only a certain ratio of the qualifying candidates of JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. This is the second stage of JEE entrance test and nearly top 2 lakh candidates sit for second stage.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the JEE examination, a candidate must fulfil all the norms for sitting in the examination. Below mentioned are the points that a candidate must fulfil to get a clean chit for the exam.

  • Age Limit: Candidate should not be more than 24 years of age as on 1 October 2015. However, the age relaxation is provided for the SC/ST/PwD candidates. Aspirant belonging to any of this category must not be more than 29 years of age as on 1 Oct 2015.
  • Education Qualification: The candidate must have completed 12th in 2014 or 2015. Also, the candidates writing 10+2/equivalent exams in 2016 may also apply.

Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics should be as core subjects of the candidate applying for JEE.

  • Number of Attempts:Three times is the maximum number of times a candidate can sit for JEE. However, the age limits and the number of attempts for the admission in the institutions of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha states remain the same as directed during the state level exam.

The JEE Mains application notification is made available in the month of December only through the official website of the JEE Apex Board.

Pattern of Examination 

Paper 1:

In JEE Main question paper of paper 1 questions are asked from Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.

Candidates have to mark only one option for each question out of four options given. One-fourth marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer. However no deduction if no option is marked

 

Paper 2:

Paper 2 is generally for the candidates applying for B. Arch. This paper consists of the following three sections-

  • Mathematics
  • Aptitude Test 
  • Drawing Test

3 hours is the time allotted for writing the exam

JEE Main 2016 Result

JEE Main 2016 result will be released in two Parts. The Part-1 will be released on 27 April 2016 consisting of scores, while in Part-2 of the result All India Rank (AIR) of the candidates will be published. The Publication of AIR is 30 June 2016.

Counselling Procedure

JEE Main Counselling 2016 will commence from the 1st of July, 2016. It will be organized by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) and CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board). It will be an online counselling. Counselling has been divided into four rounds. First three rounds will be organized by JoSAA while the fourth round is a special counselling round which will be conducted by CSAB.
